Prof. Adrian North, head of the university’s department of applied psychology of Heriot-Watt University conducted a research on this subject. It was the first largest study which was conducted on this subject ever before. They have conducted the research on more than 36,000+ people across the world. At first people were asked to rate 104 musical styles and then questioned about aspects of their personality.
According to the professor the research was “significant” but “surprising”. It was significant coz such kind of research on music would help music industry to survive. If you know the person’s music taste then you have the clear picture, who to sell to and what quantity is required. But the most surprising incident is the similarities between heavy metal and classical music lovers. It has been found that they were both creative and at ease but not outgoing.
The general public has held a fixed idea that the heavy metal fans are suicidally depressed and may cause danger to themselves and the society in general. But actually, that is not the case. They are also very delicate and sensitive beings.
Btw Prof. North is still continuing the research and I hope I would get more clue on musical taste to share with you all
